Taco Bell Cantina Chicken Bowl
Taco Bell has updated their menu and is now featuring what they are calling their Cantina menu. To help start that off they offered a new facebook promotion offering a two for one deal. Buy a Cantina bowl or burrito and get one free. This was offered for short time July 5-7, 2012. Unlike other coupon deals this one was tied to Facebook and required you to log in. Once you have done this Facebook lets your friends know that you checked out the new Taco Bell promotion. From here a coupon of sorts is emailed to you. You can then either print it out, or more fitting for these modern times, you can simply show the cashier on your mobile phone. That is what I chose to do and it went well. The cashier told me that they had had troubles with people who did not bring the coupon in any form and still demanded the deal. Sounds like not everyone is ready for our paperless world, but this is definitely where we are heading.
Taco Bell’s new Cantina menu
is meant to update their old menu to better match where Mexican food and what the customers are expecting these days. For more than 25 years Taco Bell has been the benchmark of Mexican fast food, but with the arrival of fast casual places like Chipotle’s and La Salsa and other competitiors, things are a little different than it once was and what used to pass as Mexican food no longer is good enough. To show that the new menu is more sophisticated they are showcasing it with www.cantinabell.com and Chef Lorena Garcia.
Chef Lorena Garcia, got her big break on NBC’s “America’s Next Great Restaurant” and will appear on the new season of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters”. Starting back in October 2010 Lorena starting working with Taco Bell to create the perfect menu. All inspired by Lorena, Taco Bell’s Cantina Bell will feature eight new ingredients such as whole black beans, cilantro rice, 100-percent all-white meat chicken in a citrus and herb marinade, guacamole made with 100-percent Hass avocado, pico de gallo, fire-roasted corn salsa, creamy cilantro dressing and romaine lettuce.
I grew up eating a lot of Taco Bell Taco salads. Probably 25 years worth of them, yes, I eat a lot of fast food, so I knew what to expect from a Taco Bell Taco Salad. I also frequent a lot of different Mexican food places of all calibers. This bowl is like described, chunks of white chicken on a bed of cilantro rice with corn, black beans, guacamole with a citrus herb marinade/dressing. The bowl has a bit of heft to it so you feel like you are getting a pretty healthy serving. The meat was fresh and the chunks were a good size. The marinade had a great taste and worked well with the vegetables and chicken. There was plenty of rice and the dish was filling. I have to say I really liked it. I think that Taco Bell has made a Cantina cutomer out of me. It absolutely matches some of the Fast Casual Mexican places and even betters them in terms of value. Great Taste, great quantity, great value and they even gave a good shot at using Facebook and Social
Networking to deliver a super deal! That is a winning combination all the way around.
