Riviera Mexican Grill is located in the Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. Known for their Margarita’s. Their bar is top notch and they also are a full featured restaurant. Decorated in a beach motif it is a lot of fun and has been a main staple of the Village for years. Parking is a little rough, but if you are patient you can find some in the back.

OLIVER:

Rice and beans, two taco’s

Riviera Grill Two Tacos Rice and BeansThat is music to my ears. Make it ground beef and I am in Taco heaven. For me it started in the mid 70′s at a place called the Red Onion on Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance. I really like taco’s and use it as a benchmark. You can tell a lot about a restaurant just by looking at their combination menu. Is it a number 8? Number 2? Ground beef or shredded? These are the important aspects of a taco. Lately places have stopped using ground beef. In place of it they are using shredded beef. I don’t know if it is a case of longing memories or just my weird tastes, but I prefer ground beef over shredded beef. You won’t get out with out spending at least $15 for lunch, but it is tasty.

CARL: I love Mexican food and I have been to Riviera Mexican Grill many times over the years. I typically get a combo plate here at Riviera but today I decided to be brave and try something different off the Lunch Specials Menu. The most challenging thing on that menu today looked like the Spinach and Chicken Enchilada ($10.49). The dish features enchiladas filled with spinach, chicken, and cheese – topped with ranchero sauce and your choice of two sides. For the sides I went healthy with black beans and the Zuni Chopped Salad with cilantro-lime vinaigrette. The meal took a long time to arrive – possibly due to the lunch crowd. When I finally dug in to my lunch adventure I did enjoy the unique taste of the cheese, chicken and spinach. The enchiladas were a tad dry – they could have used much more ranchero sauce – but aside from that they were tasty. The black beans were predictably good. I’d advise against the Zuni Chopped Salad, it was like eating the garnish – more for looks than for taste in my opinion. Overall tasty but a tad expensive. Four pigs.
