CARL: Growing up in Torrance I have seen many restaurants change hands, change names and change locations. The China Tea House was a Sizzler – a very popular Sizzler – when I was a kid. At the time, it was a novelty to see an all-you-can-eat salad bar and any opportunity to have steak when I was a kid was a treat. Back to present day, The China Tea House is now a family oriented Chinese restaurant with a comfortable vibe. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and seated in a comfortable booth. The waiter immediately came over and he was soon followed by a manager (or possibly owner) to greet us and say hello. After much decision I ordered the “Kung Pao Three Delights” which featured beef, chicken and shrimp. The dish came with soup, salad and white rice in a large bowl for the table to share. The food was delicious, but a touch “goopy” for my taste. The portions were VERY generous and I had plenty to take home and enjoy for dinner. Overall a great experience and plenty for the money. Four and a half pigs!
OLIVER: I also used to come to this place when it was a sizzler as a kid. In fact, I had not realized it was the old sizzler till after lunch. When you come in it has a very friendly and family atmosphere. The dining room is very ornate and looks appropriate for a nice lunch or even a fancy dinner.
Lunch starts with a Egg Flower soup, always a favorite of mine. Followed by a chinese chicken salad. You don’t see a lot of places serve this traditional manner anymore. For my main course I got the spicy mushroom meal. It came with a heaping amount and it was very tasty. Rich tasting and plenty is the best way to describe this.
