Calamari’s is located on the corner of Prospect and Torrance Blvd. Right after Bishop Montgomery High School. They have been there for about a year now replacing the Pizza Hut that was once there. It is typical of what you might expect of a casual Italian restaurant. Plenty of booth seating with wood and red in abundance. A very comfortable and quiet setting, at least for lunch that day. In the evenings they show sporting events on the overhead monitors and you can enjoy pizza and wings like a typical sports bar.
OLIVER: I have been eying the ads for it for a while and looking for a reason to go here. A Lunch Pig Birthday was close by so I thought today would be a good time. It is a bit further than we normally go for lunch, but as it turns out, well worth it. Our waitress was quick to greet us and get us in a booth. Really nice spacious seating and a great menu are a good start to any Lunch Pig. I wanted something a little extra today, so opted for the Chicken Tetrazini. It consists of Chicken breast pieces with mushrooms, spinach and a white wine sauce. The lunch special also comes with your choice of soup or salad and I chose soup which was Minestrone today. Minestrone literally means “big soup” in Italian. And this had plenty of pasta and vegetables to make it a very satisfying pre-entre soup. When our waitress brought my main dish I was very pleased with the quantity of the dish. It was more like a dinner serving, which is always a plus for me. Along with the dish came a basket of delicious garlic bread. I quickly emptied the basket. The chicken was very good, tender and flavorful. The spinach was fresh tasting and the pasta in long strands.
It was a great meal, a great environment, and a great price. The service was perfect and the cokes were always full. I gotta give them 4.5 pigs, they deserve it. You should come and visit them and try some of their other dishes as well.
CARL: My travels take me up and down Prospect on a fairly regular basis and I have stopped in to this restaurant location a few times when it was a Pizza Hut. From the outside the place looked fancier and after stepping through the doors this was indeed confirmed. The place was warm and inviting – including our very friendly waitress. I was impressed with the reasonable prices and the decent variety of items on the Lunch Special menu. After a quick consultation with our waitress I decided to go with the “Personal Pizza with two Toppings” for $6.95 and the Diet Coke for $1.76. For my toppings I chose mushroom and onion. The pizza was about 8 inches in size, thin crust and with only light amounts of sauce and cheese. The crust and the sauce were surprisingly flavorful and gave a nice balance to the experience. I really enjoy cheese so I would have like a bit more cheese but overall it was a delicious and filling pie. Oliver and I were attracted to the place for the lunch specials price and we were not disappointed. With plenty to choose from for $5.95 – $7.95 there are lots of of options for repeat visits. The combination of good food, reasonable prices and a nice dining experience make this a very solid 4 Pigs but our super friendly waitress (Lisa) bumped it up to a 4.5. Well done Calamari’s. I’ll be back for lunch and dinner in the future.
