Hank’s Pizza and Deli – Italian Casual

Hanks has been at this location for – I’d say 20 years. A quaint location on a side street just off Hawthorne Blvd., tucked behind a U-Haul yard at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Decent free parking right out front or along the street close by.

CARL: I was feeling brave today so I suggested we try something new – Italian. Being of Italian heritage and coming from a family of excellent cooks you would figure I’d be picky but I’m pretty open minded and flexible with my Italian choices. Hanks has a good selection of lunch specials that included salads, pasta and sandwiches. I opted for the meatball sub. The sub came with a small lunch salad. Not too shabby for $6.25. Add a $2.75 Diet Coke and you’re still under $10.

The salad was good for a freebie side salad. Nice dressing and flavors. Looked pretty good too. The meatball sub was just the right size and very tasty. The bread was toasted crispy but not over-done. Plenty of meatballs – just enough to make it a good sandwich. I hate it when you have to eat a sandwich with a fork. Something horribly wrong with that scenario.

My wife and I used to be regulars at Hank’s while we were dating and early in our marriage (we celebrated 20 years of marriage this week). The restaurant hasn’t changed much and they still provide good food at a reasonable price with a nice atmosphere. Overall good and I’ll likely go back again sometime soon. 4 Pigs!

Oliver: This was my first time to Hank’s. I actually had no idea they were there. The place has a nice decor and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The way the outdoor seating is nestled, it makes for a very quiet and no wind meal. I would recommend eating outside if weather permits.

They have a lunch menu and it is very extensive. Some of the plates include a drink, and that is where you can really save some money. The sandwiches and pizza do not include a drink, but include a salad.

I ordered the chicken parmigiana $8.95 and it included a basket of bread as well as a drink. The chicken was a really healthy size piece. It tasted great and was filling. The pasta was good and the sauce had a good flavor.

The service was great, cute waitresses always make lunch that much better. Food came quickly with no big waits, and parking was ok. It looks like parking could become a problem if they are busy, but we got a space up front.

Nothing to complain about, I have to give it 4 pigs
